 日本の革新 Innovation in Japan!

During this 15-day trip we offer you a broad range of activities, whereby the first as well as the final part of the trip will take place in the capital, Tokyo. First we will stay in a newly opened Hostel in the residential area around Asakusa, the eastern part of Tokyo. Thanks to this convenient location it is only a short walk to the old temples, Akihabara's crazy electronic towns or the famous Tsukiji fish market. At the same time we will also offer you specific insights into famous Japanese companies or arrange discussion rounds with Japanese politicians or university students. Furthermore there will be many opportunities to discuss the new impressions - be it in the Japanese living room in our accommodation or in one of the many restaurants or bars which make Tokyo such an interesting city to explore.

After having experienced Tokyo during the first few days of the trip, we will then board the 250 km/h fast 'bullet-train' called Shinkansen and head westwards to the Kansai area, one of the most important cultural centers of Japan. This area is often described as a contrast to Tokyo due to a more relaxed attitude of the Kansai people, who use, for instance, a less formal language compared to people from Tokyo.

Here, in the southern-central part of Japan's main island Honshu, the former capitals of Japan, Nara (710 - 784) and Kyoto (794 - 1868) are located with their numerous famous shrines and temples bearing the old culture and history of Japan. Kyoto will serve as our "base camp" from where we intend to discover the wider Kansai area. Further, we plan a daytrip to Biwa-ko, the largest inland-sea of Japan.

In the beginning of the second week we will slowly move back towards greater Tokyo while not missing the chance to enjoy the coastal area of Japan or to get inspired in the research centers of Yokosuka, where the Japanese high tech industry works on its mobile communications visions.

The final part of the tour will again be in Tokyo. This time we will direct the focus on the western part of the city with its famous places such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, Omotesando or Shimo-Kitazawa that host countless creative, inspiring, shocking or surprising venues, bars and restaurants.

It is our aim to let you think about this country in a differentiated way, explore it, question it and try to understand it, while equally enjoying the many fantastic things Japan has to offer.
